Marketing ebooks: Building A List is Essential

If you ask any business person, they will tell you that building a large client list can mean the difference between success and failure. This is also true when you are selling your ebook.

The main reason you should build a client list is because the marketing research says that most people will not purchase anything during their first visit to your website. It typically takes between six and eight contacts to make a sale. If you don’t have a client list, how will you contact them so that you can make a sale?

Another reason to build a list is that people who have made one purchase are more likely to purchase again. If you build a client list, you will already have people who will be interested in your next ebook. You can also use your list to sell products related to your ebook. If your ebook is about camping, you can sell books about hiking, maps, and other camping gear. You would do this using affiliate marketing (to find out more about this, see my article on Affiliate Marketing).

A client list can help your business grow faster. If you had to sell every ebook you write from scratch, it would be like building a new business from the ground up each and every time. Maintaining that level of energy would be exhausting. A list will let you make more profit with less work.

So how do you build a list with your website. You can’t just send out sales pitches to random people on the internet, because that’s called spam. You have to get people to opt in. They need to say that it’s all right for you to send them information.

There are several ways that you can get people to opt in. You can write a monthly newsletter. You can offer a free report or series of reports.

Then you use an autoresponder to automate this process. You put a form on your website where people can sign in. An autoresponder will automatically confirm the fact that they’ve opted in to your website. It will then send out a series of sales pitches or newsletters or whatever you choose to those email addresses. You can set the delivery interval from a day to a couple of weeks. The autoresponder collects the email addresses and keeps a list for you.

Aweber is my choice for autoresponder. This is a subscription service. The price starts at about twenty dollars a month and goes up depending on the number of people opting in. Click here.
